After Eddie McGuire’s landmark interview apologizing for the
racial comments made at Friday night’s match , he gets himself into an
awkward situation by making inappropriate
comments.
What I am asking is if Australian's really takes racism seriously?
Each year in Australia we have a great
round of football known as the Indigenous Round, where Indigenous players show
off their AFL skills. However in this developed nation, people are still naive
enough to make Indigenous and racial comments. Eddie McGuire has been grilled
after implying Adam Goodes could promote an upcoming King Kong musical. This Age.com.au
(2013) has quoted McGuires’ slip up “Triple M breakfast co-host Luke Darcy had
described a promo for the musical as great and McGuire replied: 'Get Adam
Goodes down for it do you reckon?’”. This of course is in reguard to the taunt that was made by the 13 year old
on Friday nights clash against the Pies.
I have respect for the apology McGuire did
after the match, but it makes me wonder could he really mean it if he can
make a remark like he did this morning, high lighting the point 'Do Australians
take racism seriously?’
